Following a February announcement, Meta has rolled out a limit on suggested political content for all Instagram and Threads users. The new feature is being automatically applied and is in the process of being implemented globally. The first to experience it were US users, who shared screenshots of the new menu online. A new option has appeared in the profile settings, under the suggested posts path, related to political content. Those who do not want this limit can uncheck it and continue to receive suggestions on these topics, even from accounts they do not follow. The change on Instagram will also affect Threads, which relies on the existing network of the first social network.
Meta defines political content as "a post that mentions governments, elections, or social issues that concern a group of people or society in general." The company had announced the feature in February, explaining its desire to make Instagram and Threads an enjoyable experience for everyone. If you decide to follow accounts that post political content, the company says it doesn't want to get between you and their posts, but it also doesn't want to proactively recommend political content from accounts you don't follow.
With the option activated, the visibility of political content in the Explore, Reels, feed recommendations, and suggested users sections will be reduced. This change does not apply to photos and videos of people you already follow.
